Joe
Wiebe grew up in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, but has lived mainly on the
West Coast since 1991 (except for an 18-month lapse of reason spent in Winnipeg).
He has been based in Vancouver since 2001. As a freelance writer, Joe has written
more than 100 articles for
newspapers such as The Globe and Mail, Vancouver Sun, Ottawa Citizen,
Victoria Times-Colonist, Edmonton Journal, and Georgia Straight. Recent
magazine publications include Toro, up!, enRoute, AirLines,
Geist, Urban Male Magazine, Rhubarb and BC Business. He received
his MFA in Creative Writing from the University of British Columbia in 2006.
Joe taught a freelance magazine writing course at the University of
Western Ontario in May/June, 2006, and will be teaching it online again in
January, 2007. He will also be teaching a Freelance Writing course at Douglas
College (New Westminster, BC) from January to April, 2007. He is looking for
a publisher for his baseball-themed novel, Mudville.
In addition to writing, Joe loves playing and watching sports, especially hockey,
baseball and basketball, reading, playing guitar,
travelling, drinking wine and beer,
camping, cooking, and playing games of all sorts, especially Scrabble, Texas
Hold'em and euchre.
